Driving over cooled magma in the wilderness

We recently took a road trip through central and southern Oregon.  My son did most of the driving.  He did an excellent job driving over a mountain pass, with roads with no shoulders and barely enough room for two cars to pass each other, sheer cliff drops on the right, and he was rewarded with stunning views.

We actually drove over the cooled magma, lava from centuries before, and found our third American castle, our fifth North American castle.  It was quite the reward.  The views of the Three Sisters, Mount Washington and Black Butte were amazing.  It was a wonderful trip and was exhilarating to be out in the wilderness again.
