We raised quite a bit of money at Solstice.

We raised quite a bit of money at Solstice this year.  The annual Fremont Solstice Fair is a great event full of crafts, food, music and fun for the whole family.  I volunteer and help organize this event, among others.  Thanks to all the sponsors as well.  The Chamber of Commerce are pleased with how much we raised for its charity that will go back into making the entire Seattle community better.

I had the rare opportunity to explore the catwalk, above the rafters at The Paramount and experience the Wurlitzer.

Paramount drums

I was able to climb the steep ladders, crawl over the top of the ceiling, 4 floors above the stage, walk the catwalk and see all of the amazing instruments that are played when the Wurlitzer is engaged inside The Paramount theater.  The Wurlitzer is an amazing organ, only a few are left in the world.  There is one at The Paramount in Seattle.  When the Wurlitzer keys are pressed on the organ, air currents are shuttled throughout the theater, forcing the individual instruments to play, such as drums, horns, dulciana, chrysoglot and even a harp.  The sound comes through the louvers in the wall so that the entire theater reverberates as if an orchestra were playing.  It was a wonderful experience and this instrument and the organ itself, as well as the theater, are a marvel of technology and history, even though they were invented and built 100 years ago!  I have a new love and respect for both.

Paramount horns

Thanks Phil, the caretaker, for this great experience!

Thanks to everyone who made Upstream a success!

This was a great event, bringing together hundreds of bands, sponsors, art, performers, culture and artists to raise money for arts and culture in Seattle.

I want to thank everyone from the Seattle Sounders to Bold Hat productions for all that they have organized and contributed.  Thanks to everyone for all that they contributed to this great event and I look forward to participating in this again next year!

Be grateful for your senses!

Be grateful for your senses and all of the wonderful experiences you enjoy because of them.  Think of all the wonderful tastes and textures you experience with your mouth.  Enjoy all of the wonders you see with your eyes and music yout hear.

Smell the wonders of nature and luxuriate in your touch.  Never forget it is a wonder and privilege to be human.

Holiday Season

Although we take time to be thankful during the holiday season, we should be thankful all year long!  There are so many things I have to be thankful for this holiday season, and all year long:  My family, my company, my work, my new house, the songs and albums I have recorded in multiple studios, the multiple books I have written and published that I have now surpassed Charles Dickens, the festivals I have helped organize and run, Christmas snow, road trips, vacation, my man cave, my new giant tv, my new grill, being able to work often from home, taking the train to work, and so many other little things that I blush with how blessed I have been and still am.

My New Year’s Resolution is to be thankful all year long and never forget how blessed I have been and how blessed I am every day.

I recently took a road trip with my son.

We drove together from Seattle down to Portland.  He drove all the way, in his car.  We listened to each other’s music, talked about everything from his job to my job, friends to career, to cars and girls.  It was a very rewarding time and we learned a great deal about each other.

We have been very close, my son and I, since the day he was born and he spent the first night in this world sleeping on my chest.  But as he has grown and become a young adult, we have found there are different things we both like.  Even though he is my mini me just as I was my father’s mini me, this trip solidified our closeness and gave us even more great memories together. I highly recommend each parent take a road trip with each of their children.

Perspective

Life can often come down to perspective making all the difference. How w

e see things, how we see others, can be the deciding factor between success or failure, friendship or enmity, a lost opportunity or a friend for life.

This period in my life has been crazy busy. I am moving fast in my new job, recording albums, talking with agents and publishers, performing live,  writing books, running festivals and working with book cover artists.  Through this growth period I have been experimenting with altering perspectives and it is changing my life!
