Remember when we didn’t have to lock our doors or our cars?

Remember when we didn’t have to lock our doors or cars at night?  When we could walk around town in the dark and not fear anything bad happening to us?  What happened to those days?  Why has our society become so evil and dangerous?  Why can’t we ever return to those days?  Maybe if all of us tried a little harder to be kind and be safe, to teach our children properly and to not hate, desire peace and love, we could return to that world we once lived in that was so simple…

We can start looking up again at the sun and clouds, the mountains, the birds.  Try it, when you are walking outside next time.  Keep looking up and you will notice everyone else will do the same.  People are so willing to follow these days, like the Catholics who follow the Pope, an ancient and medieval custom that is no longer necessary yet people do it.  Then you will see that everyone, like you, is looking up and we won’t have our heads down trudging every day.  Then, just then, maybe, our society can return to a brotherly community again.

It was Matteo Bandello who wrote, “Yet some there be who would say that love…

It was Matteo Bandello who wrote, “Yet some there be who would say that love is not most potent! Who after this will venture to deny the greatness of its puissance? Verily, its might is far in excess of all that we can avail to conceive.  Do we not daily see it produce the rarest and most marvellous effects in the world and overcome all things?  Wherefore it used to be said that one cannot love by measure; for, whenas love willeth, He maketh kings, princes and men of the utmost nobility…”

Isn’t love a wonderful thing?!  With Valentine’s Day coming up, it’s good to remember that many people love not only other people, but ideas, dreams, books, sports, cooking, nature and a good deal other things in this world.  Life is short so we need to keep the love spreading around the world!

I am not a revolutionary or Bolshevik, but…

…are any world governments really working?  Is the U.S. economy a good reason why our presidential process is a failure?  We thought the war in Iraq and Afghanistan was for democracy, or even for controlling oil, but it turns out it was for heroin.  The country of Afghanistan is the biggest grower of heroin in their huge opium fields.  And our government is taking a cut in that huge drug trade, just as we did when we went to Viet Nam to get in on the cocaine business.

And why does our president continue to let us get raped at the gas pumps? Is it because he is getting a cut in the huge profits the oil companies are making.  And meanwhile, more and more people become obese, eating very unhealthily, not exercising, vegging on video games, while robots and cheap, foreign countries take away our jobs.  I think it is time for a change, a lot of change!

Holidays are over but the season of giving goes on!

Even though the holidays are over, the season of giving goes on.  This is a good time to call mom or dad, especially if you haven’t spoken in a while, just to say you love them and appreciate them.  This is also a good time to make up with that sibling that you have had differences with.  Life is too short to hold grudges.  And sit down and talk to your children, give them a hug and tell them you love them.  Don’t just talk at them, listen actively to what they say.

It’s also a good time to contact that friend who you may have parted ways with, or to rectify issues with a co-worker to whom you may not have always seen eye to eye.  Remember that life is short and friends and family, loved ones and opportunities, are too few and far between to let them slip through your fingers and ignore them until it is too late.  Happy New Year everyone!
