As we move into the seasons and holidays of Halloween, All Saint’s Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, there are many changes in the weather, the color of the trees, the leaves falling, the days shortening and the nights becoming darker, longer and colder. I am also aware of much more magic in the air, the energy of spirits, of the power of nature and the reminder of human kindness and to treat each other warmly, not just now but all year long.
Let us not forget to decorate, celebrate and enjoy the company of our friends and loved ones. If you go to church, be sure to go regularly. If you know a veteran, thank them and shower them with food and gifts. Be thankful for all you have and be grateful to those you may take for granted. Magic is all around us and in us and sometimes all it takes is a word, a gesture, a smile or a deed to let it flow to everyone.

This weekend we took a drive out to the coast and witnessed a wide array of nature’s color now that Autumn has alighted upon us. Even though daylight savings is here and the days are darker and shorted, the rain is falling and the temperatures are dropping, there is still the glorious color of Autumn to make us smile.
I recommend everyone take a drive soon, away from home and comfort, to a coast or a new place, and enjoy the adventure and the color. You may even discover something that is new to you, as we did, and will make the whole trip even that much more special.
Our garden of delights has now made way for two of my favorite, most colorful, and most fragrant of my plants: The purple lavender is now blooming and is filling the garden with its delightful scents. Also, our wild rose bushes are filled with pink blossoms and every time I go outside to the front or back garden, I am serenaded by the wonderful scent of my roses. This is such a wonderful time of year as all the summer blossoms and flowers and abundants. The weather is gettting warmer and all of the summer activities and outdoor adventures are beckoning.
Each year, my family and I take an Autumn drive to take in all the fall color, the foliage, the beauty of the season. In the past, we have taken drives south to California and east along the North Cascades Highway. This year, we are taking little roads from Seattle out to the coast at Cannon Beach, Oregon.
I have been looking forward to this trip especially since it will involve an overnight stay at Gearhart Hotel, a McMenamins hotel, on the coast. We will take walks on the beach and play golf at the lovely course at Gearhart, one of the oldest and most historic courses in America! I look forward to the drive, the color, the food, the drink, the golf and the coast. We are leaving soon!
