It is fun to be a tourist in my own city, which is what I did this past weekend. We went down to the Pike Place Market and watched them throw the fish! We strolled through all the fresh flower and fruit stalls, took in the sea air and enjoyed all the buzz and energy of the people, mostly tourists. It was fun to be down there again. The market reminds me of the medieval markets that I used to visit when I lived in England. I used to go more often to the market in Seattle when I lived right downtown. I used to go to Post Alley and enjoy a pint of Guinness at Kell’s and eat dinner at the fine French restaurant Campagne.
Seattle is a very European city and much of the Pike Place Market is influenced by Europe. Having lived in Europe for three years, I see so many European people, food, wares and culture reflected in Seattle. You can hear so many accents also. I did the same thing when I lived in London. I would go out to all the tourists spots and watch the tourists enjoy for the first time what I had been living every day. It is a fun and exhilarating experience and I recommend everyone go and place tourist in their home city this year!
